Grantsville, MD June 9-12th 2023 Retreat for a solo woman writer or artist
The Cabins is teaming up with the writer Kasia Merrill to offer a Maryland-based woman artist a long weekend in Kasia’s bucolic home in Grantsville, Maryland from June 9th to June 12th, 2023. The resident will have their own bedroom and bathroom, with shared access to a full kitchen, living room, wrap-around porch, a firepit and Grantsville’s beautiful nature right out the back yard. Though it will be challenging to reach the house without a car, Kasia (who will be present with her boyfriend Vano during the resident’s stay) can pick the resident up from the Cumberland, MD Amtrak station, take them by a grocery store so they can stock up on what they need, and return them to the train station after their stay. Interested creatives can view photos of the property here. Kasia has two cats in the home, so it isn’t a suitable property for anyone who is allergic.

DIY GROUP RETREAT
The Catskills
The Catskills DIY Group Retreat
The residents for our February 3-11, 2023 group retreat have been chosen. We are delighted to announce the winning cohort: Rachel E. Gross, Byrd Pinkerton and Angela Chen. Thank you to everyone who applied!
.
These three creative forces are exploring the ways that medicine and technology rewrite notions of the body, the mind, and the world around us. While in the Catskills, Rachel (who reports on gender bias and marginalized voices in medicine for outlets like The New York Times, and whose book “Vagina Obscura: An Anatomical Voyage” has been shortlisted for the Carnegie Medal) will be researching the patient-doctor relationship for a feature on intersex care. Angela (senior editor at Wired Magazine and author of the acclaimed “Ace: What Asexuality Reveals About Desire, Society, and the Meaning of Sex”) will be restructuring a sci-fi novel on sexuality and the self, and Byrd (a senior producer and reporter for Vox’s science podcast “Unexplainable”) will be working on a series of sci-fi horror short films. Congratulations and enjoy your time in the Catskills!
